The base, filled with the figures of two sirens, or mermaids, back to back with a central urn between them.

The sides of the bowl rise steeply to a narrow rim, with a running leaf motif around the edge.

A fine early bowl, with an interesting subject.

Nuremberg circa 1520-1550.

Diameter 9 inches (23 cm).

Ref 890

From an engraving by George Pence, 1523-30. Lockner page 60 abb 83, shows the identical bowl.
